Before I get onto the topic of this post. The "When worlds collide" show opened last week. It looks amazing and I'm in crazy work mode but I will get up some photos of the show and pointers to the related sites you should visit very soon.

So if yo did your daily visit to map-map.co.uk today you would have got really angry to see it's down for refurbishment. But then that anger would fade as you noticed this guy above trying to say what's going on.

Well like I and he is saying it's all up for a full makeover. But don't worry because there is a double bonus on how to get over not seeing my neglected old website. My last proper unveiling of the year

Well it's near the end of the year and I've enjoyed almost every moment within it. I've met many brand spanking new people who create and enjoy art in all it's flavours with some meetings on and off line blooming into many past and future excitements.

So now I'll just say thank you very much and leave this last commission of the year! There are many more goings on before I have a little rest but their super secret although I promise a tease very soon...maybe a montage or something like that?

My Sketchbot custom: SUPER MEGA FORTEMIS WINS

So now it's been a little while I thought I'd put this custom I'm personally quite proud of up on the blog in full orange light tint removed splendour. I must say my main source of pride is just from being part of the Sketchbot custom show 2 at munky king, it has such a great list of people, who also luckily went on to create great customs (I'll put all the links that people should go to at the bottom of the post)

At this present moment mine along with way too many other worthy pieces are still up for grabs and all I can say is if you can afford food and rent then have a little left over for the extras in life do buy one or two or everything. They're all worth every dollar and to have something like Jyru's Save me (the last dance) or Scott Tolleson's Stranger v.7 or any other that takes your fancy placed on your shelf can never be a bad thing.

I've seen Jack's work in my life for I
think two maybe three years now. And
within that every new piece I see I
always smile in a fully satisfied way. His
pieces are full of real charm. Not the oh
lovely it's got big eyes and a smiley face
charm, real "fu*king hell he's captured
all that the subject matter needs to
mean what it is, oh and the colours are
perfect and the lines are sharp, clean
and direct, but what is this there is?
little bit of texture from the paint so the
image has an added punch of overall
texture well that's great" charm.

Hello everyone and all!

Firstly in a not really about me way last night I watched 'The secret of Kells'. If you look at my blog from time to time hopefully like things that look nice, well I think this movie is far beyond nice looking. So check the trailer out whilst you buy the DVD from your favourite online media outlet.

Now if you didn't watch that trailer then rush to your letter box or down to your local hmv here is a little peek at what I'm up to. Sadly after this point these guys will be off to the secret box along with everything else (although one of the them may be out a little sooner if all goes well). They're a custom of a tiny Unkl model I fell upon the other month called TinPo.

Only other news is I put my neck out and kept on trying to work. Later that week I stood on a rusty spike I found in the groundwith my middle toe. Also finally saw 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' and I can't express enough how much I regret not seeing it earlier, so good and sad and funny and lingering.

Ok a little bit short notice but the kind Sarah davenport has asked me to display some of my work at the grand pre-launch of 'The Davenport Shop of Originality' it this very night (Friday the 1st of October) at 8 flying horse walk, ng1 2hn, Nottingham. Details a little hazy as I'm trying to get this out with big mighty bags of haste but I'm sure it starts around 6pm so come down.

The Jaws custom and we're up to date!

Final push now!

This is only a few days late to the rest of the internet so I'm feeling good about this one.

The other month a kind fellow asked me to do my first commissioned custom piece. The request was for a tainting of the vinyl model Jaws by the talented people over at coarse. as a piece I can honestly say I do not have the capital to commit to for a personal project I jumped at the chance with a little twirl.

I've heard a few people say they've never seen an original Coarse Jaws so check HERE if you want to compare and contrast.

The whole piece is a mix of acrylic, miliput, & super sculpy.

(I probably think it's best to say now that if anyone ever wants me to go into detail on what I do please say and if it seems like enough people care I'll try and document my process on a future piece)

The whole custom was a joy to do although I may drop down a few custom sizes for a month or two. *wink* *wink* *teaser pic*

I'm going to be customising for a little bit longer it seems :)

A mege ultra catch up!

Well to start off I may miss one or two moments from my life. The best way to catch up may be to just stare at my Flickr page and click next a few times..although from here on I plan for this to once again be the place to see what I've created with an extra bonus slice of my thoughts.

So not to bore people with too much text I'll wow you (you better go wow) with a photo or two then a tiny text segment to keep you in the know.

The kind people at Bear and Bird gallery let me join in on their small stuff exhibition last year. Wish I could have been there, the show looked great from what I saw and from my visit a few months before it's always a great place to be if you're in the south Florida area.

I joined the fine talents of COUK, Loz Boz & Si Mitchell at Shop in Nottingham to put together XENO5 a fine collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures & customs. It was a great opening night and I recommend checking my flickr page to see many more photos of people enjoying pretty pictures.

This piece titled 'Rebirth' was part of the XENO5 show. I just wanted to show them in a nice clear view. All I'll say is it took a while and stands about 47cm tall and I hope you like them.

Wao toyz sent me a little gift so I got some super sculpy, a little bit of wood and a pile of acrylic paints. With those things I made that little guy up there. I don't think he's having a good time and I feel for him but it does look interesting.

So stepping up this custom lark I got hold of 11 kidrobot dunnys and just had a whole lot of fun. I learnt a lot with these guy and must say as a custom platform I find these a little more enjoyable than munnys, they just have that good balance of restriction and freedom. After the dunnys my hunger for customs just kept growing so I joined forces with the already great Sam of tessetoys and made little Lex Grainstern who may be pushing a little above his stations but his heart is in the right place.
Also found this Unkl unipo tucked away behind my desk so finally plucked up the courage to bore a whole in the top of his head and give the little guy a lazy bird pal.

Ok going to stop for today, I do have a few things left that I could talk about but we live in a bite sized generation so I'll keep it long winded instead of novelette :)

After a long period of living purely off the microscopic land of twitter I've decided to come back to my blog for more long winded moments saying how I'm going and what caught my eye.

To get me used to this life again I plan to just write something in between drying clays and paint. Mainly getting anyone who missed the tweets and newsletters up to date, and show some of the work you may have missed.

For now I leave you with the tiny little people I created for the soon to be slightly updated website.

As the titles says it's been way to long since my last blog. In reality though it's all been planning and hot air recently though so that may have been for the best?

But things are being planned, hopefully many big things, exciting big things.

The first of all that is my new mini store going live at 1pm BST today(05/08/09), solely made for a selection of my 3D work. To celebrate it's opening I've been creating a small range of four custom munnys :D

Sketchy side step

Hey ho!

After the doodles I did on my Copenhagen travel seeming to go down well, I've been compiling old and new doodles with a hint of cutting the wheat from the chaff to put together this small section.

Hopefully people can enjoy these little posca and pen guys just as much.

After actually focusing a day on doing a little pile of these I must say they're real fun to do, not that I'd rather spend all my days making these but after starring at my pc monitor or a painting for so long doing these is a nice little detour.

And from that I've made a wee little Store to house them in now. Please do give it a good glance. They're in the £2-10 range and really if you buy one and leave me a comment or email me I'll try and throw in a little extra or two :D

Copenhagen or Charity

Hey y'all..

I'm back from a surprise visit to Copenhagen. All very job based luckily and sadly. Not entirely sure what I can say about it all on a legal level, but deep down I have a very strong feeling if you enjoy any of the work I do on a day to day basis it won't really interest you.
It could all be good, enjoyable work though and what I got to see of Copenhagen was fantastic! Sadly I couldn't take a single photo though thanks to either being in sleek work mode or heavy flight to/from form. I still have some mental images thankfully and I can very much see myself going their on my travel one day :)

Whilst flying about and feeling all busy and important (in head not reality)I took some pens and poscas to make this mixed bag of twisted events around me & general mind images. It felt nice to do more free work whilst my half finished more detailed painting waited to be complete at home.

Also little note that I'll go and on about in the other internet spaces (like my twitter account that I have now pushed into people's view). There's a new Teefury charity tee going on sale for one day on the 8th May this Friday I feature in the colab and from what I've seen collectively it's vury vury good :D

Wooden structure plans

Realized now I never got around to showing my wooden attempts so far so here it is..

In you mind view it as the toy era that should have happened in some way?

Over the summer I've got some plans to make more & more of these guys. This one ended up about 9" tall but future ones are hopefully going to be getting into the 'put it somewhere near the pond' size. Maybe even with some sculpy made monster interaction?

Also a day or so the kind people at iamthetrend.com put up a link to my site so do give them a look around from me. I gave the place many stabs with my eye & I'd say it's a tidy place to look for pretty much everything important in life :D

Late goings on

Ok been a little while since a blog appeared...

I'm heaving my way slowly but surely towards hopefully sorting out a collaborative show or two in the UK which I'm finding to be a little harder that in could be
(if you want a rant from a bitter moment of emails follow the star *).
On other beeps & boops next month I'll be having a little bunch of work in the 'stick me hard' exhibition in Brussels Belgium ( site ) If you want to see my pieces for the show other than the one below I'd say go to Belgium :D If like me you can't do that when the exhibition is on I'll have some up on my site and on Flickr after it's all begun :)

Work wise at the moment I've been up to my neck in a wooden model and planning other future wooden models, but I'll leave that for another day hopefully with a photo of the first now complete 'Totem toy' model.

*I get a feeling at this early stage that for the most part the average gallery around the Britain doesn't take much love in more 'cartoon styled' work?
I hope this is completely untrue and next time I'll be full of glee. The main problem I feel when I go visiting these galleries is the range of work. I'm sure most people want to go into a room and have their minds expanded with (and here's the part where I rant a little from what's going down in my local area...sorry) a model sailing ship with Hokusai inspired sails, or sketchy female shapes drawn with a paint that resembles dripping brown honey (I did kind of like that one), maybe even a hugely spaced out collection of photos showing one man's travels whilst hitch hiking but when I go around there seems to only ever be three kinds of 'art' photography, obsure shapes representing an event or.....crafts

My Trip away plus developments

Just got back yesterday from a very enjoyable trip down south in the sometimes sunny UK. I was hoping to display some images of my trip but in the wise ways I work I left if all plugs and straps for my camera, but left my memory card firmly in my pc. I would have bought another but I did that already on my trip over to the US!?

But Either way I had an enjoyable time at my good friend Nich Angell's home. He's in the city of Salisbury. A great city just an hour out of London and Bristol so great for getting to the hot spots of the Art I love really!

Whilst there main visits worth talking about would be the above gentleman's showing of work alongside Mr Jago & the trip to the Crimes of passion exhibition in Bristol (also featuring Mr Jago).

Also the bigger news to come out of the trip is that hopefully very soon I'll be able to push out some info about me in a group show later this summer! pencil in something about me for June, maybe July.. :D

Skecthy painting

Here is something I do quite a lot when waiting around with my pens and some paper near by. Also do them on every art package I send (to the annoyance of the postal people. Really enjoy scribbling out a basic shape with a marker sized pen (normally a posca) then adding some more levels of detail with a smaller pen (normally the lovely partner Pentel's 'sign pen') then maybe even finer details with a biro or anything below 0.3 :)

So after those more detailed paintings I spent a day making these...

Felt nice to make bigger painted gestures and not worry if the character was really worth the effort to draw every hair.
It also hit me that these make nice even more mini version of the work I do, & with a few younger people contacting me about really liking my work (which seriously makes me beam with joy) but not really able to afford anything on offer (I have plans for sorting out prints but they're being pushed to the back of the list at the moment) they're £10-£15 price tag feels like a good choice...although any mind set of trying to sell things to younger people feels sordid, in a normal exploiting for money kind of way. Better than buying stacks of pogs like I did though :)

Hunter or Hunted!

The other five of the hunter&hunted mini set is complete! The oil paint went ok, much thicker than I expected but beyond the smell of turpentine I'd recommend people have a go with them! I'm planning something a little more scene based next time and working with some acrylic at the start maybe?

All are 13cm x 16cm (approx) oil and acrylic on reclaimed wood

A little Oiled Up

First I must say that anyone near New York tomorrow please visit this site APW for info on the World of imagination show I will be showing in.

Ok great, little plug of work for sale & on show done.

Now in a bid to spend more money on a whole new batch of paints I've decided to have a go with oil paints. Other than a tiny try many years ago when I wasn't really a painting kind of Human, I've never tried oils. Always had a love of people who use them in a fashion similar to how my work has been edging at the moment so now felt just right to have a tiny stab. So yep, here it is.

It's 13cm x 16cm on reclaimed wood, as a test I'm going to do another 5 on a hunter hunted theme. This poor guy is the hunted.

Oh ooo o O no toubles in America

All topped up on sleep now!

For the last couple of week I've been having a lovely spell in America thanks to family living there. not too much holidaying time though, still needed to get some work done in my make shift studio/kitchen table. I did get to see a few galleries though, my personal art tastes do seem to appear in the US a lot more.

(if you care to read more about my America time just follow the * I don't want to make people sift through my travel words just to see what's been going on with my paintings and such)

In personal paint times, just before heading back to home I shipped off my paintings for a show starting in APW's freshly moved gallery in New York on March 6th. Check out there site HERE for more details. It should be a great show rammed full of original work.

As a preview I've put up these three, with five for the actual show.

If you are in the area or passing through please do go for the opening they're always great events. Also then you can maybe tell me how it went so I can go back to my cold corner of the room and weep, happy in the knowledge that unlike me you got to see it in the flesh

*What I did get to see and do in the US was a joy. The People of America are in most cases friendly and polite, with the day to day smile, hello, and lack of wary glances a culture shock to my British mind. I struggled for a second to move beyond the mind set that any single man or women had the potential to have a gun close at hand (and I honestly had an exaggerated fear for a moment when I got off the plane without even seeing any hint or shadow of a holster), but once I saw the sun beaming in winter and a radio station blaring out rock classics (with a speckle of some really bad new morbid tunes) my moments were back on a Boston filled positive note.

Did a bunch of things. Most of it in the day was just walking to new places as no car kind of left me stranded, but the nights and weekends were full of planes and drives to new far of places. I won't go into much detail on tourist time or it'll all turn into one of those boring 'and here we are in the Maldives, oh! terry's holding that really long pine cone. Weird thing yeah, we found it under a palm tree?' but with no imagery to keep anyone hooked.

So deep down that's the snippets of my time away.

A second good bye for those who care how my day to day life rolls.

Ahkakakakakk! been kind of busy and away from any real internet (had a ps3 that was connected at the house I was in but that won't even access my hotmail account so that stopped being useful very quick). That's my reasonable excuse for neglecting here, but I think there's still some green in this thing so I'll get a watering with words and pics again most probably tomorrow sometime, mainly some stuff about a show and my little thoughts on the US whilst I was there up until last night.

Today I saw the pond at the back of my house frozen over so now I know the cold months are officially here, so with that my love of beards are back again!
The idea of a sweat filled summer beard is in no way a good thing, but a warm trapping of air in a thick beard is the work of a dreamer. A woollen faced dreamer!

I also did this painting the other day.. I'm in a real pickle at the moment on whether to really go almost pseudo 3D or retain the more flat 2D look with my paintings or maybe just carry on doing both?

I recently slowed down to an almost full stop making new entries to here (the last of them will be added when I really have time to get at them with a scanner).

So now I've hopped over to a Blog purely about what I am supposed to be doing from day to day. So this area should be getting full of paintings, sculptures, and anything digital I may make, with a little bit of word below about the whys and whats connected to each piece.
